Introduction to tp-link Repeater
I work in an office for a very large corporation and so my job comes with a lot of perks. I usually sit around in my cabin all day long just working on my computer making plans and sending emails.
My job as a project manager entails me to keep a record of what’s happening with a project at any given time. My job isn’t very exciting but as I said I get a lot of perks. O
ne of them is an extremely fast and smooth Wi-Fi connection. We have a fibernet connection installed in our office and so I get speeds reaching 1 gigabit that’s more than I can ever use.
So I make the best of it by streaming and downloading games and other content that I may need since I have a not so great Wi-Fi connection at home.
However, since the whole pandemic mess began I had to work from home and still do the same level of the job without the additional facilities that I get when I am in my office.
I have a great Wi-Fi connection but my router is crappy, it doesn’t really transmit the signals all throughout my house so I get dead spots everywhere.
I wanted to find a solution for this so I went online and searched for it. I then purchased a tplink n300 tl-wa855re repeater. It was very affordable and absolutely amazing.
It also performed exactly as I expected it to. I did the tplink n300 tl-wa855re setup through the default link. A list of detailed set-up instructions is given below.
Setting up the Tp-Link repeater
I am quite knowledgeable about the set-up so I completed it really quickly and got the repeater running. I must say that the set-up is actually pretty easy and can be done by anyone who can read the instructions.
So it’s not very complicated and you don’t need to worry if you haven’t done it before. Now the most important thing before setting up the repeater is to carefully unbox it and remove all the pieces of packaging, then plug it into a power socket and turn it on.
Now, once the repeater has been turned on you can set it up using one of two ways either by using an ethernet cable or by wirelessly connecting it with your smartphone.
To set it up using an ethernet cable connect the ethernet cable to the repeater and then insert the other end into your personal computer and head over to the default gateway by typing in the default i.p address and enter your login credentials or you can also head over to the tplinkrepeater.net login page and set up the repeater from there.
After you have logged in to the page you can change or modify the settings as per your needs. You can also change the SSID and password of your repeater and set it as a different access point or you can connect to your existing router by scanning your vicinity for your router.
There’s another way apart from the wired method, and that is the wireless method and for that, all you need to do is to make sure that the repeater is connected to your smartphone or laptop.
Then the setup process is the same. You can also set-up the repeater using the WPS button, to do that press and hold the WPS button at the back of the repeater for about 5 seconds till the lights start flashing, then do the same on the main Wi-Fi router.

Once the connection has been established you will see that the internet symbol will have turned blue from orange. This concludes the different methods of setting up the repeater.

Repeater troubleshooting and firmware update
There are a lot of issues that cause such minor malfunctions and they are just as easy to solve. Now if you find that your repeater is not working then test rebooting it and if that doesn’t work then try factory resetting it as that will change the router back to its default settings.
Also, make sure to check and do the tl-wa855re firmware update whenever possible as that will not only maximize the Wi-Fi performance but also prolong its life.
