The Galapagos Islands

The Yucatán Peninsula
The Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico have plenty of islands with perfect beaches, palm trees, and scenery, but the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico has all of this and much more.
With ancient Mayan ruins, underground rivers where you can swim, charming colonial cities such as Mérida with colonial architecture and great restaurants, and the fabulous nightlife you would expect, this is possibly one of the best adventure vacation destinations in Mexico.
Quintana Roo is the most famous state on the peninsula because it contains Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum to find beaches, ruins, and nightlife. Campeche state is a neighbor and has hundreds of extraordinary Mayan ruins.
There are more than 7,000 underground cenotes and caverns throughout the peninsula, and the cave systems at Parque Dos Ojos are unique in the world and fun to explore. Ruins include the spectacular Chichen Itza pyramid, carvings of jaguars, and much more.
